Etymology[]
The name Ilona is of Hungarian origin, however the meaning is uncertain. It is thought that the name is possibly a form of Helen, the English form of the Greek ‘Ελενη (Helene), probably from Greek ‘ελενη (helene) "torch" or "corposant", or possibly related to σεληνη (selene) "moon".
