Hannibal Goldspur is one of the younger sons of Angus and Idun. He lives at Goldspur's Farm together with his parents, grandfather, elder sister, elder brother, and twin brother.

The name Hannibal is Latinized Phoenician, meaning "Grace of Ba'al" from Phoenician hann "Grace" combined with the name of the god Ba'al (the Hebrew form of Semitic ba'l meaning "lord, master, possessor").
