Description[]
Gen 2[]
"The Mustang is a breed of horse bred in the wilderness of America. The name comes from the Spanish "mesteño" meaning runaway or wild, which is an appropriate name for the breed that was originally domesticated and then became wild. As there are no explicit breed standards for the Mustang, the appearance can vary widely from horse to horse. However, some of the most common colors are brown, bay and chestnut roan."
Gen 3[]
"The resilient and surefooted Mustang is a symbol of the untamed spirit of the American West. The breed is descended from horses brought to the Americas by Spanish explorers in the 16th century that were either released or escaped and thrived in the rugged landscapes. Wild mustangs still roam across the country’s open spaces today. The Mustang is a medium-sized horse with a muscular build and expressive eyes, presenting in a wide range of coat colors and patterns. When trained, mustangs excel in various disciplines, showcasing their endurance, intelligence, and strong work ethic.
Starshine Ranch's Carl Peterson, nostalgic for the mustangs of the Western ranches in his home state of Texas, imported the breed to Jorvik, where it has become a fast favorite of adventurous riders!"
Unique Features[]
The Buck[]
Note: The horse must reach level 7 to perform this move.
Both the G2 and G3 Mustangs have a unique motion called the Buck. The animation can be activated by pressing the space bar, but only when standing still, otherwise the horse will jump instead of Buck.

Unreleased Colors[]
Note: These coats have not been confirmed by Star Stable on any official sources. As such, there is no guarantee these coats will ever be available to players.
These coats were leaked and shown on Instagram and YouTube in April of 2019. The dark buckskin coat was previously released as an NPC on March 14, 2018. [10][11]

A version of the Gen 3 Mustang that was already in Star Stable Online was added to Star Stable Horses. The fully raised foal can be bought for 900 SC.

Trivia[]
- The wild bay pinto G3 mustang's coat is modeled after a well-known feral stallion from Sand Wash Basin in Colorado, USA, named Picasso.[20].
- While the horse in SSO is labelled as wild bay, the real Picasso is generally acknowledged to have been chestnut with a very dark mane and tail. This is because the hairs color below his pasterns, on the tips and rims of his ears, and his muzzle were not black. Additionally, almost all of his offspring were chestnuts except for a few with black or bay mothers.[21]
- The bay dun G3 mustang's coat is modeled after a well-known ranch-bred Kiger stallion from Bend, Oregon, USA, named Donner (Full name, Donner Of Steens Mountain).[22].
- Donner served as the inspiration and reference for the animated movie, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, where he was used as the motion model for the titular character. After his work with the film was done, Donner was renamed to "Spirit" and was relocated to the Return to Freedom Wild Horse Sanctuary to serve as ambassador for the Kiger Mustang breed.[22]
- While Donner himself is a Bay Dun, Spirit from the film and books is a Buckskin as he is the offspring of a black sire and palomino dam, while Donner was the offspring of two duns.[23][24]
- The grullo pinto G3 mustang's coat is modeled after a feral mare from Sand Wash Basin in Colorado, USA, named Sugar.[25]
- The black G3 mustang's coat is inspired by a feral stallion from Sand Wash Basin in Colorado, USA, named Snip. He is a son of Sand Wash Basin's famous stallion, Picasso.[26]
- The G2 Mustang has the most Bay varieties of any G2 horse breed in-game, with a total of four.
- The G2 Mustangs were the first horses released in Star Stable Horses with more than one color available for purchase.
- The limited release horse, Spirit, shares his model with the G2 Mustangs.
- Despite appearing to use an old base in the Star Stable Horses app, the three G2 Mustangs available through the app use the same base as other G2 Mustangs in the Star Stable Online main game.
