Dressage training at the Equestrian Festival in SSO

Dressage is an equestrian sport available in Star Stable: The Spring Rider and Star Stable Online.

History

The first dressage activity was released as part of the 2023 Equestrian Festival, at Jorvik Stables Arena. Star Stable said that they were planning to add it permanently to the game after receiving feedback from players.

It is currently unavailable, however will likely be added as a permanent activity sometime in the future.

Mechanics

Unlike other races in the game, dressage is focused on performing the correct actions and earning points rather than doing it as quickly as possible. Points are earned by doing the dressage test as well as possible: being in the correct gait and switching to it at the right time, along with staying on the path of the course. There are up to 10 points awarded for each pattern/section in the course. If the intended pattern is not followed by the player (such as going the wrong direction or in the wrong gait), then a penalty is earned; if three penalties are earned in one pattern, then the player will fail and have to try again.

Penalties, points, and the gait the horse should be at are shown in a header at the top of the screen while doing the dressage test. Gait changes are shown in advance in the arena by a green circle.

Training and Mastery

There were two versions of the dressage competition for the Equestrian Festival: training and mastery. Training could be completed an unlimited number of times each day for the player to learn the course, but it does not give any rewards. In dressage training, arrow paths were also shown, making the course significantly easier. Dressage mastery could be completed only once a day, and did not have the arrow paths, meaning that the player had to remember the course without the same cues as training. Completing the mastery test awarded Horse XP and Spring Tokens.

Star Stable: The Spring Rider

The focus of The Spring Rider is dressage. Throughout the game, the player prepares for a dressage competition at Rodilla Riding School.

Trivia

• Dressage is a popular activity in SSO, with many riding clubs dedicated to it.
• Some horses in SSO have dressage special moves, such as the G3 Lipizzaner's airs above ground moves. However, these are currently not implemented into the dressage tests in the game.
• While dressage in real life requires formal attire, there are no penalties or rules in game for tack or clothing in SSO.
• The type of dressage done in SSO is Quadrille dressage.
